International Geneva as capital of sustainable finance

From 3-6 October 2022, around 800 decision-makers from the fields of finance, public authorities, ecology and development met in Geneva to discuss solutions for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In his opening speech, Swiss Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer said there was no more suitable place for such an exchange than international Geneva. Here, the financial centre, the UN, international organisations and non-governmental organisations come together in a very small space. Tatiana Valovaya, the Director General of the UN in Geneva, also commented on the conference venue: “Switzerland – with its multilateral hub and world-renowned financial centre – is the perfect ecosystem to connect finance and the SDGs.”

Building Bridges featured a high-level Summit, over 65 community-led events, and a networking village.  This international event aims to create synergies, develop new initiatives, and make finance a key catalyst for change.

Building Bridges in London

To reinforce Building Bridges' international ambition, a Building Bridges event was held in London a few days before the Geneva conference, in cooperation with finance.swiss and the Swiss Embassy in London. The thematic focus was on transparency for climate-friendly investments, for example using the Swiss Climate Scores.
