Geneva: Building Bridges Summit

United Nations Geneva

04.11.2021

To kick off the international Building Bridges Week from 29 November to 3 December 2021, a high-profile summit will be held in Geneva with world-renowned keynote speakers and out-of-the-box thought leaders. The Summit will be opened by the Swiss Finance Minister, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer, and the President of Building Bridges, Patrick Odier. Several panel discussions, which will be streamed live, will delve into the topics surrounding sustainable development in the financial sector.

On the following days of Building Bridges Week, 77 workshops on sustainable finance and impact investing will take place in Geneva. Building Bridges benefits from Geneva's unique location, where most of the world's countries are represented by their governments, thanks to the numerous international organizations.

Launched in 2019, Building Bridges is a joint initiative to drive more capital to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is supported by diverse actors from the banking industry, the United Nations and other international organizations, NGOs, academia, and Swiss local, cantonal, and national authorities. At the core of the initiative is the recognition that the scale and complexity of the transition to sustainable economies and societies requires "building bridges" between multiple stakeholders.

Launch of SDG Impact Finance Initiative

On 1 December, the Swiss authorities, led by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco), will launch a new initiative as part of Building Bridges Week. The SDG Impact Finance Initiative (SIFI) is a new way for the Confederation to work with the private sector to promote investment for sustainable development.
