Switzerland top-ranked in Global Green Finance Index 2021

Switzerland has emerged a winner in the 2021 Global Green Financial Index, with Zurich sharing first place with Amsterdam in the overall rankings. Geneva also ranked in the global top ten, making Switzerland the only European country to have two financial centres at the top of the leader board.

 

Green Finance Ranking

Western Europe continues to dominate both the ‘depth’ and ‘quality’ green finance ratings, taking nine of the top 10 places in depth, and all top 10 places in quality. This reflects the continuing efforts made by European financial institutions, central banks, regulators, and the European Union to embed sustainability in their regulatory work, including in the economic support offered in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Global Green Finance Index

This is the seventh Global Green Finance Index (GGFI 7). The GGFI is a factor assessment index, based on a range of instrumental criteria (quantitative measures) and a global survey of finance professionals’ assessments of the quality and depth of green finance offerings in financial centres. This research is conducted by Z/Yen, one of the City of London’s leading commercial think-tanks.
